SOMETHING LOVECRAFTIAN AND MADE OF WOOL IS ALMOST HERE

Well, with the Book Festival starting yesterday, I guess all the Edinburgh Festivals are in full swing (the Film Festival having been cunningly moved to an earlier slot in the year to coincide with the other European Film Festivals), so imagine my suprise while sitting in a cafe in the Grassmarket, I see that right at the top of the top ten Theatre and Performance events in "The Skinny" is "The Call of Cthulhu" -  "One man and the Great Beast that lies dreaming of reclaiming its planet. A fine fear fest". Spooky, I think, because only a few yards away in Scotland's best science fiction, fantasy and horror bookshop - Transreal Fiction - is an exhibition called "Attack of the Knitted Tentacle" billed as "an exhibition of unspeakable horrors, unimaginable terribleness and knitted things". And, boy, those many-limbed things with shiny bits at the end, do sort of creep up on you from between the bookshelves. Want to take over the planet? Start with the young, I say.
